May 3rd 2014 - WA State HS Photo Contest

Three professional photographers/veteran judges once again volunteered to spend all of their Saturday marching back and forth across our gym, selecting their favorite photos in a dozen categories out of over 4100 submitted from 73 high schools across Washington State. There was a lot of excellent work to enjoy, and some recognition for Inglemoor students and what they had achieved in only one semester. Below are some of the works that took home ribbons, and a few other choice entries.

Many thanks to all the volunteers who worked the event and helped everything run smoothly.

This Is The Future Nextdoor

Over the summer a remodeling spectacle took place as the room nextdoor to photo was transformed into the new home for Mike Wierusz, and his IB Design & Technology and Sustainable Engineering & Design classes. Using student-generated designs, the room was transformed from a beigy boring blah to a vibrant funhouse of mad dreams, wild science, cool cutting-edge tech and big-assignment sheets of cardboard. So, when Mr. Wierusz gave photo students the opportunity to shoot some needed pics, it was a great chance to check things out. Chloe Jarvis and Megan Liang (thank you!) juggled their schedules to catch a fraction of the action:

Now it's like living next to the DisneyWorld Imagineering department for the rest of reality - one's never quite sure what to expect, but it promises to be interesting. Can't wait to see what's next from the lightsaber-wielding Mr. Wierusz and his Jedi-ninja students, who are working on the future right now.

Last semester was also my first foray into teaching photography in a million years. Despite a lot of rough edges, students came through with some nice work, a fraction of which is below (in a blinkered assortment of sizes, alas).

Last semester kept me too busy to keep up on photographing and posting student work, but a few good things didn't slip by. Hopefully this semester I'll have more of a chance to share.
