Robert Fornell

Rob Fornell throwing a tea bowl on the wheel

Rob Fornell is a local teaware artist who teaches on occassion at the University of Washington and Seward Park Clay Studio. At the workshop he was generous in helping me make a purchase from Inayoshi Osamu. If I'm good, one day I'll reward myself with one of his chawans.

Look, Ma - no bottom! All the tea bowls Rob was making started out as thrown or hand-formed rings.

Trimming the inside of some hand-built tea bowls that have yet to have bottoms attached. Since I couldn't make the second day, I didn't get to see (or photograph) how he put things together and finished them off - so sad.

Also from the Nevica Project show, two photos of Black Iron Chawan 2. The foot on this chawan appears to be made from a slab pressed onto a mold with lettering on it, then stretched out before being attached - something Rob demonstrated at the workshop.
