Born Endre Friedmann, covered five wars, D-Day on Omaha Beach (all but eleven negatives were destroyed by the processor); died after stepping on land mine in current-day Vietnam during the First Indochina War. Founding member of Magnum Photos, based on his idea. Partnered with and got his name and career started with Gerda Taro.
