Gaspard-Félix Tournachon (Nadar)

A caricaturist who took up photography and portraits with an eye for capturing personality, used 8"x10" glass plates instead of smaller daguerreotype plates and photographed many well-known people of the time. Pioneered using artificial lighting in photography in his photos of the catacombs of Paris, and also took the first aerial photographs, one of many notable results from his interest in hot air balloons.
