Gertrude Käsebier

Decided to attend art school when she was 37 with three kids, moved and traveled to further her education, picked up on photography. In 1895 became professional photographer with New York City studio to help support family, making many images that showed the importance of motherhood. Photographed Sioux who were traveling with Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show when it came to town, emphasizing the individual person rather than cultural dress, unlike Edward Curtis. Part of Alfred Stieglitz's Photo-Secession, but later separated from it due to differences with Stieglitz.
